Who would want to have a s*itty radio tuner on their iphone? that's why I download music So I can listen to the music I want at good quality. with no commercials? And you can multi task any ways so what the big deal of streaming music? at least streaming is the genre you like haha

I downloaded Enemy of the State for the heck of it. Sound and video quality were very good, and the $9.99 price is right, too, especially since I do not have to have a DVD box taking up shelf space. Looking forward to the set-top box, whatever it ends up being called.

This may have been asked and answered before, but is the common belief that USB and Firewire will be completely gone soon? For example, my Macbook Air has room for only two ports - a mini-display drive, and a USB drive. Is the idea that the Thunderbolt drive will replace the USB, and that purchasers of the new Air will use an adapter of some sort for "old" USB peripherals moving forward?
If Apple has this expectation, they had better at least sell an appropriate adapter/hub. I've long thought a thin, form-matching hub that connects to all of the ports on one side of an Apple portable would be a great idea. If Apple can make a 2- or even 3-port USB hub off of the Thunderbolt port (especially if a Mini Display-Port is also available) for ~$50, that would be golden for this type of MBA plan.
You both think into it too much:

A Photographers event, eh?
I want to dig deep into photography. Last week I went to a bookstore and I was looking for Digital Photography books. What I found was something terrible: lots of books featuring Adobe Photoshop, Camera Raw plugins, Adjustment of curves, RGB's, clone pixels, RAW and more RAW books.
I got really frustrated because, even though I understand that RAW format, I find everything just out of mind. It is so complicated... hey! I just want to edit my pictures with something easier like iPhoto without something complicated like Photoshop's Camera RAW. I found Aperture easier than PS. I tried it in an Apple Store with a MBP 17-inch like mine and it was sloooooooooow! But it is fine... I can deal with that, I think. What about an upgrade of Aperture where it is optimized and faster? I would really hate if they do a software upgrade and they make Aperture slower on Apple's previous (to C2D) hardware. The other part of the story is that I would like a gorgeous 20+ widescreen display, I don't care about an iSight built-in.
So maybe this is the time for good Photo-products upgrades...

from what ive read the difference between Core Duo and Core 2 Duo isnt much

the Core 2 Duo are -10-15% faster at the same clock speed but use more power
They're also 64-bit and if Apple uses the Conroe the FSB is a lot faster.

Apple is doing extremely we'll in a lot of markets. Microsoft does well in the corporate market but they are not flashy or innovative in terms of their core market. Microsoft does well because corporations have settled on Windows / Office combination. Since it does well for their purposes, it is enough to sustain them.
Congratulations to Apple for doing so well but do not feel bad for Microsoft.

MS has been extremely successful with SQL Server for decades. Windows is more than just Windows in the business world. Apple is and has been non existent in the business world since Apple's birth. MS has numerous small business packages. Apple has none. MS has a huge Services team. Apple has none. MS has ventured into hardware accessories for decades (mice, keyboards, etc) and probably still makes a hefty profit there. MS has also dabbled into consumer electronics hardware with Xbox (wildly successful) and Zune (terribly bad). Again, these aren't cuts on Apple nor am I rooting for MS...but there simply is no comparison.

I'm glad Apple is doing very well and hopefully Apple will some day lower their iMac prices a few hundred bucks so I can have a prettier web surfing machine compared to my Dell. Come off it, cmaier has a darn good point. Apple is being utterly ridiculous in this debacle between themselves and Rogue Amoeba. There was no reason at all that such a debate should have evolved into a 3 month conflict, nor was it that it should have ended with Rogue Amoeba having to indulge their customers in a battle with Apple over icons. Having user interface unity is something Apple strives for in all of their products. By giving 3rd party developers the ninth degree over something so ingrained in this product is simply stupid. It does nothing to help the end user, ingrain the confidence of developers, or aid Apple. It just brings out end users and developers with grievances and sharpened pitchforks.

The audio is streamed but those icons are copied over and superimposed on each other on the phone. That is a clear violation of the IP of other programs in a manner that is not consistent with use on the mac it was pulled from.

I do know that USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt are really great, but it bothers me that Apple seems to be abandoning Firewire. I always thought of Firewire as an apple technology. I've read that there are now Firewire 1600 and 3200 technologies.
I do hope that Apple will adopt the new USB standard. I see USB as being much more useful for average users than Thunderbolt. I was really surprised years ago when I found that my new iPod was unable to use the Firewire cable that my first iPod used.

but i thought half the point of TB was that you would only need one output from the computer, and since we don't have any TB displays (or anything for that matter) how do we know that the ports are limited to one display?Displays are at the end of the chain. I believe there is a passthrough for additional displays as well.
You do want additional outputs to avoid the annoyance of unplugging displays. This will be more of an issue on the Mac mini and Mac Pro. I can imagine instances where the displays might not come back at all.

There's no question that apple will not *ship* merom machines tomorrow. But there's nothing stopping them from making the announcement and taking preorders.

It'd be sweet if the phone had an iSight, you could dock it on your computer and video chat with ppl in ichat. (Well, great for people like me who have a g4, and no isight already)

Curious that everyone is clamoring for a thunderbolt-enabled machine, but there isn't a single thunderbolt drive available on the market.

Depends on the cipher really. Not all ciphers can be decrypted with even the latest of the latest hardware, especially if you lack the private key. And a court order can force you all you want to give up that private key, but they can't force you to remember it or not lose it. ;)
"I don't remember" or "I lost the private key to my encrypted backup, but here's the AES-256 encrypted file guys, have a go at it" are perfectly good answers.
Over in the UK not remembering passwords can sometimes land you in prison. Just remove the incriminating files frequently and regularly.

Yes, lets just ignore the huge performance, upgradability and price gap in Apples product lineup, shall we. It can be the elephant in the room when we all swoon over our "laptop on a stick" desktop while PC users get to play with the REAL hardware.

I use both.... and all I can say is "CUT and paste". Windows has had it for years, OS X SL doesn't. Same with window snap.
I love OS X, but, like with a lot of Apple products, its the "little things" that matter...
Both are great operating systems, and I will continue to use both since I cannot run Visual Studio on Mac, or XCode on Windows... :)
